Tuxedo Nails

Zooey Deschanel tweeted a picture of her nails prior to hitting the red carpet at the Golden Globes last week to show us her tuxedo nails.

I gave it a go myself using the good old Models Own nail art pen and here are the results:

Spring Summer Trend Guide Part 1: Dapper Flapper

As the dreggs of the Christmas sales have finally made their way out of the shops to make way for the shiney new Spring/Summer clothes, we at last get to see the trends from the cat walk be translated into affordable clothes we can wear!

In part one of my Spring Summer Trend Guide I've chosen the 1920s inspired looks which were seen on the cat walks of Gucci, Etro and Roberto Cavalli.

I love the glamour of this look, no doubt inspired by popular TV programmes at the moment including Boardwalk Empire and Downton Abbey. It might not involve feather boas and those long cigarette holders, but pleated midi length skirts, the odd bit of fringing, drop waist dresses, a looser silouette, and heavy embellishment are fairly prominent in the shops, so there's no excuse not to look to the 1920s for some Summer inspiration!

In terms of make up, heavy lipsticks, victory rolls and those tucked under curly up dos will suit this look perfectly, just make sure you don't go overboard and look like you're going to a fancy dress party!

Which element of the flapper look can you see yourself wearing this Summer?

Pumped Up Kicks

Okay, tell me if I'm being crazy here, but I've spied a few people wearing hi-tops with a very subtle concealed wedge, and I think I love them!

Isabel Marant is possibly responsible for this micro trend after her Bekket sneakers have been on the lips (and feet) of anyome who's anyone on the fashion scene.

Celebrity fans of this trend include Miranda Kerr, Beyonce, Anne Hathaway and Alicia Keys.

That black pair are just calling out for me and they look incredibly comfortable, perfect for a relaxed day.

The Isabel Marant beauties are £430 unfortunately at Harvey Nicks. BUT, a brand called Ash have a near identical pair for £139  over at ASOS. Still too expensive, but I have definately fallen head over heels (pun entirely intended) with these shoes!

Topshop and New Look I expect to see something similar in your stores very soon!

Golden Globes 2012: Best of the Best

I know I'm a bit late in the day with this as the Golden Globes were six days ago, but awards season is here and lots of gorgeous celebrities gathered together to wear gorgeous dresses, poke fun of eachother and accept awards for how excellent they are!

Exciting I know!

I have chosen my favourite three looks of the night and here they are:

Reese Witherspoon I think looked fabulous in a red  Zac Posen fishtail gown. The sweet heart necklace and fitted bodice made her look fantastic, and her trademark blonde beachy waves as well as her neutral make up let her dress do all the talking. A winner for me!

Next up is Jessica Alba. Jessica wore an embellish Gucci gown in lavendar. It was beaded all the way down and had an impressive train making for a very glamourous look. She paired it with a loose updo and some chandelier earrings. Like Reese Witherspoon her make up was natural and I think she looks fabulous!

Sarah Hyland isn't too well know in England yet. She is a young actress who's mainly been in sitcom Modern Family. But never the less she looked great and really got my attention. Firstly it's by one of my favourite designers Dolce & Gabbana and secondly her hair and make up were also stunning. Her nude vintage lace dress with a black satin bow clasp was paired with a Milady clutch by Daniel Swarovski. And the relaxed updo her hair was styled into teamed with a smokey eye completely the look perfectly. A very sophisticated look from someone so young.

Other dresses which got my attention were that of Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood and Charlize Theron, who also particularly stood out to me.

Now I'm leven more excited for seeing the rest of the awards season!

Lace Manicure

Quick post about my nails today!

Inspired by Cosmetic Cupcake, I did a konad lace manicure.

I started of with a Ciante nude polish (My Fair Lady to be exact) and then stamped on a fish net style stamp, followed by a floral one. These fingers turned out okay, the other hand I had more of an issue with but I find it's really difficult to get any sort of consistency with stamping! Cosmetic Cupcake's attempt really puts mine to shame!

Do any other fellow stampers read my blog?

People's Choice Awards: Kaley Cuoco

The People's Choice Awards took place earlier this week and they were hosted by no other than star of The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco.

Kaley wore a few dresses throughout the evening, and a host of other stars including Miley Cyrus, Leo Michelle, Demi Lovato, Vanessa Hudgens and Jennifer Hudgens also made their mark on the red carpet. But in my opinion is was Kaley's red carpet dress which stole the show.

She looked stunning in a beige Badgley Mischka Spring 2012 full length gown with flower embellishment.

Her bouffant style hair and manicured nails finished off the look and ensured that she made a real impact on the red carpet.

What do you think of Kaley's look on this occassion?

Saturday Steal: Snake Print Shoes

Colourful snake print shoes seems to the en vogue at the moment, having graced the feed of Miley Cyrus and Nicole Richie recently, to name but a few.

If you don't fancy the £795 price tag of Miley's Jimmy Choos, Topshop have both a green, red and yellow option in stock at the moment, so you can get that celebrity look at the snip of the cost!

I'm not one for loading on too many statement pieces so would probably pair with something fairly neutral, and black or nude dress.

Saturday Steal: Mcqueen Tartan Dress

Tartan seems to the the fabric du jour for this Winter. Everyone's been wearing it, including Rihianna when she performed on the X Factor, stunner Katherine Jenkins, Emma Watson at a GQ bash and Cheryl Cole in her new Stylist Pick advert.

This dress is beautifully cut, with a tulip puffy skirt and a high neck. I like the way Emma has teamed hers with a leather jacket and black heels.

The specific dress all these ladies have been wearing is from Alexander McQueen, but as luck would have it Boohoo.com have a pretty convinving dupe for just £20!

Best Tressed 2011

2011 has been a good year for hair all round. Trends have appeared with lots of them refusing to leave. Things have got wilder and wackier than ever before, with undercuts, bright colours, ombre ends and fishtail braids everywhere you turn. To celebrate a great year for hair here is my top five best tressed ladies of the year. (In no particular order)

1. Fearne's Long Bob

Fearne went for the chop this year and opted for a long, textured bob that suits her perfectly. I can't be the only one getting bored of seeing celebrities universally wearing their hair long and in loose waves, and this do really does the trick. She'll often curl it to create a vintage feel, wear it poker straight or inject some texture in as shown in the picture. It all suits Fearne's style perfectly.

2. Drew's Ombre Ends

Drew Barrymore was one of a gaggle of celebrities who went for the grown out roots look by adding in some graduating lighter shades to the ends of their hair. Drew really went for it, going from very dark brunette to very light blonde at the ends. I personally love this style, and not just because the timing of it coincided perfectly with me growing out my former blonde hair (only a little bit left now!)

3. Kate's Chelsea Blow Dry

Possibly the most talked about do of the year, Kate Middleton's Chelsea Blow Dry. It's long, has lots of body, a curl just at the end and tends to make her look perfect no matter what the occassion. I don't know how she does it, all I know is that I want it!

4. Nicola Roberts Volumous Curls

Nicola Roberts has really made her mark on her own seperate from Girls Aloud this year in the fashion stakes. Her hair is always flawless, and she wears it with a hell of a lot of volume (not to mention extentions I'd assume) but regardless it always looks amazing. Her strawberry blonde hue and bouncy curls are incredibly glamourous and she manages to look great no matter where she's being photographed.

5. Scarlette's Victory Rolls

Scarlette's look here perfectly epitomises the 60s siren look she is frequently seen sporting. The way her hair is rolled up seems to defy the laws of hair architecture I thought was possible, and her styling always takes you bad to Marilyn Monroe/Betty Page era.

What do you think of my top five and is there anyone else you think deserves a place?

Best Dressed 2011: Emma Watson

Having already run down my list of Best Dresses worn in 2011, the time has come to crown the best dressed individual. Whilst some celebrities can be a bit hit and miss, someone who always seems to get it right is Emma Watson.

It's been a busy year for Ms. Watson, with the Harry Potter franchise finally coming to an emotional close, being selected as the face of Lancome, modelling for Burberry, as well as filming her upcoming releases, My Week With Marilyn and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Not to mention signing up to attend Oxford University.

In the style stakes though she never lets us down. The Ellie Saab number she wore to the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere after party was floaty and feminine, but she can equally show us some edge wearing a tartan print Alexander McQueen dress, or the harsher look she adopted for the New York premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, with slicked down hair and a smokey eye.

There's plenty more opportunities for Emma to shine next year with premieres and awards ceremonies which all have her name on, and I'm in no doubt that she will continue to look fantastic both on and off the red carpet.

If you have to pick just one person as the best dressed of 2011, who would be your choice?
